Randy Alcorn Risk Aversion Model

Randy Alcorn is my friend, mentor and inspiration. Randy not only is a nationally recognized author and speaker but also has a compelling sense of justice that is Biblically based. As many of you know he was arrested for picketing an abortion clinic over 20 years ago and this necessitated him leaving his pastoral position at my home church. He did this selflessly as he was not going to allow the city of Portland to garnish his wages and send that money to an abortion clinic to kill more unborn children. Quite a noble act, one many of us would find difficult to do given our precarious financial situation.

However, Randy had a plan.  He knew the outcome could place financial stress upon him and his family personally.  Therefore, he pre-planned for it ahead of time.  And the blessings God has given him are immeasurable

I site this example as I deal with churches everyday that have limited finances and these drive poor decisions as it relates to their budget. They would like to hire a youth pastor to lead the children’s ministry BUT cannot afford it. Buildings and grounds suffer from lack of capital improvements and volunteers are needed weekly to help out. Equipment and technology purchases are delayed and office computers trudge along at a snail’s pace hindering work flow.

Sound familiar with your church? Well it doesn’t have to be that way, so let me offer a few solutions to your frequent budget concerns-

  • Consider offering a Financial Peace University class at your church. Like my church, over 1800 people have been exposed to sound biblical teaching that for many has radically changed their personal and corporate financial planning. As Dave Ramsey says, “What could the people of God do for the Kingdom of God if they were debt free!”  My home church is experiencing this now.
  • Offer a Heritage of Hope Workshop . I recently hosted 4 workshops at my home church that included strategies for communicating the aging process with family and estate planning options. Nothing can be more difficult than communicating end of life financial matters with family members
  • Call or click on www.CMIrisk.com and get a free risk and liability assessment for your church. Many of us dream about standing up for what is right like  Randy did but cannot afford to expose ourselves to extreme financial issues. .  However, unlike Randy, we don’t plan for the financial ramifications of exposing ourselves to the hazards of the outcome.Unfortunately Churches are already targets from any and all that would desire to see Christ’s Bride taken down. We can help you minimize that exposure and reduce your liability through sound insurance practices.
